Any in-between place marks a liminal terrain – it is a threshold. It represents edges and initiation, change and conception. What we seek most from an aesthetic experience of Art is the potential for it to change our understanding, for illumination and insight – for an awakening. This project is our tour guide to new visual experiences through Art. Thresholds is a group exhibition of over thirty artists. They respond to the theme and title by presenting startling interpretations and constructions that shift the lens and reveal perceptions of contemporary life in the tropics. Works range in medium and scale including painting, photography, sculpture and object-based installation practices. The artists have responded to a widely promoted EOI process maximising the opportunity for new community engagement and interaction. Painting, photography and installation practice are particularly strong in the selection of works being prepared for exhibition.
