KIM NOLAN

“Moments tells the story of the environment in which I live and how I interact with it. With the pressures of performing, comparing ourselves, the judgment of others it is easy to lose sight of what is important, and the intrinsic beauty of what surrounds me”.

Kim’s collection of ceramic wall tiles depicts a micro view of her environment showcasing intricate details, which when viewed as a collection create an abstract landscape of colours and textures. A body of work that captures individual moments, that when placed together on the wall that give the viewer a different perspective.

Hand built in various different clay bodies – white, black, terracotta and porcelain clay – texture is then added using tools and found objects pressed into the clay along with the use of slips and underglazes. Natural oxides, coloured stains, glazes, glass and sand are added as a final layer of the texture before a second firing.

Kim’s exhibition will also feature a collection of beautiful reference photographs.

My process often starts out by taking photographs, by standing still, taking the time to absorb the small details, colours, patterns, sounds and movement of insects and wildlife. By immersing myself in these meditative places I recharge and become creative. My work can often represent what I actually see or it can be a reflective process of what it felt like to be in that moment.”
