A comprehensive exhibition of printmaking by the late artist Billy Missi.
Working with the family and friends of the late artist Billy Missi (born 1970 on Mabuaig Island, Torres Strait), curator Russell Milledge and NorthSite Contemporary Arts presents the retrospective exhibition, Billy Missi’n Wakain Thamai.
The bilingual retrospective exhibition honours the artistic legacy of Missi, a prominent figure in the establishment of the Torres Strait Island Printmaking Movement. Billy Missi is remembered as a prolific artist and proactive maintainer of language and culture for his people. Rare and never-before-exhibited monoprints and etchings are included alongside iconic linoprints by the artist.
The gallery exhibition is accompanied by an exciting new display of digital public art on the Bulmba-ja Facade, created to commemorate this momentous occasion and in collaboration with the Billy Missi Estate. Commissioned by NorthSite Contemporary Arts for Arts Queensland, Bulmba-ja Facade. NorthSite’s Facade project is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland
