Arone Meeks

NorthSite Contemporary Arts and Arts Queensland proudly presents Guardian Figures featuring the animated work of the late Cairns-based artist Arone Meeks (1957 – 2021).

Arone produced works depicting a spirit world bursting with sensual figures and symbolism. Printmaking was an essential technique for the artist who explored scale through lino block prints, texture through etching and lithography, and colour through monoprints.

The Bulmba-ja façade is a fitting platform to present some of the hand-cut stencils that the artist used to create his many luminous monoprints in moving digital form. The residue of coloured pigments captured on the stencils reveals an unintended aesthetic appeal that celebrates creative techniques pioneered by the artist.

The Bulmba-ja facade project is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
