The Board of Directors and staff of NorthSite Contemporary Arts warmly invite you to attend the official book launch of Navigator Spirit Ark: Arone Raymond Meeks – celebrating the life and career of the late artist and the retrospective exhibition as part of the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair’s Citywide Program.

A visual journey through the thematic pillars that sustained the artists creative output, this new publication features writing from the curatorial team Dr Russell Milledge (Artistic Director NorthSite Contemporary Arts), Geoffrey ‘Tex’ Dixon (The Arone Meeks Estate), Dr Bronwyn Bancroft AM (Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Co-operative) and First Nations writer, Jack Wilkie Jans.

About the Exhibition

Navigator Spirit Ark: Arone Raymond Meeks brings together significant works from across Meeks’ artistic practice, offering a considered reflection on his enduring contributions to contemporary art. Through explorations of cultural transmission, ancestral knowledge and spiritual navigation, the exhibition honours Meeks’ legacy, and the continuing resonance of his work.

This retrospective has been curated by NorthSite Contemporary Arts in collaboration with Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Co-operative and the Arone Meeks Estate, with the project partnered with Cairns Indigenous Art Fair and supported by Arts Queensland.
