Patty Preece

Patty Preece is a Cairns-based musician, electronic music producer, Ableton Live Certified Trainer, and sound artist whose creative practice interrogates aesthetic and relational hierarchies at the intersection of sound, gender, and technology. Engaging with posthuman feminisms and sonic cyberfeminisms, their work challenges conventional performer- instrument-audience dynamics through the use of hacked domestic objects, DIY electronics, and immersive performance ecosystems.

With a career spanning over two decades, Preece’s practice integrates live performance, instrument design, music production, and sound installation. Their recent project, Hot & Heavy, is an immersive performance-installation exploring themes of labour, technology, and climate change through interactive sound and movement. Preece holds a Master of Research from CQUniversity, where their thesis, Oscillations: Exploring a Performance Ecosystem Through a Sonic Cyberfeminisms Lens, received the Outstanding Thesis Award. Currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Queensland, their research expands Hot & Heavy, examining labour, technology, and collective sonic experiences through a posthumanist framework.
