This group exhibition interrogates Blak histories across Queensland. It demonstrates the return of property, land, power and agency to rightful owners and communities through art.
The artists in this show tell diverse stories from different First Nations cultures across Queensland, celebrating unique identities; owning the past to forge the future.
New printworks were created in April 2022 through a printmaking residency hosted by NorthSite at the InkMasters/Djumbunji Press Studio in Cairns. The installation was developed by the artist collective during an artist TAKEOVER project (Old Ambulance Station in Nambour, May 2022).
REPATRIATE is curated by Darren Blackman and premiered at NorthSite Contemporary Arts in June 2022, as part of the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF) 2022.
Artists were supported to create new prints at NorthSite in April 2022, through the Fresh Ink project, made possible by the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund, provided through Regional Arts Australia, administered in Queensland by Flying Arts Alliance.
