Bulmba-ja façade digital public artwork on LED strips
The late Cairns-based artist Arone Meeks (1957 – 2021) produced works depicting a spirit world bursting with sensual figures and symbolism. Printmaking was an essential technique for the artist who explored scale through lino block prints, texture through etching and lithography, and colour through monoprints. The Bulmba-ja façade is a fitting platform to present some of the hand-cut stencils that the artist used to create his many luminous monoprints. The residue of coloured pigments captured on the stencils reveals an unintended aesthetic appeal that celebrates creative techniques pioneered by the artist.
