NorthSite Gallery Internship Program

An exciting opportunity exists for young people to gain valuable skills and experience working in a professional contemporary art gallery environment, at NorthSite Contemporary Arts in Cairns.

Three paid internships are available, December 2020 – April 2021.

Gallery Interns will receive hands-on training and real-world experience through a 5-month paid internship at NorthSite.

WHAT:

The NorthSite Contemporary Gallery Internship Program is a new, vital arts initiative that creates pathways for 3 early career practitioners to secure paid industry placements and customised training opportunities, preparing them for future employment in the arts and culture sector in Far North Queensland and further abroad.

NorthSite (formerly KickArts) plays a fundamental and enduring role, ensuring the development and importance of contemporary art in Far North Queensland through the delivery of enriching contemporary art exhibitions, programs and services.

Gain experience behind the scenes and learn about the arts industry and gallery operations while developing valuable skills and knowledge for future employment in the arts.

WHO:

Young people aged 15 – 25 years, with a keen interest in arts and culture are encouraged to apply.

WHERE:

NorthSite Contemporary Arts, Bulmba-ja Arts Centre, 96 Abbott Street, Cairns, Qld 4870.

WHEN:

A commitment of 3 days per week for the five-month internship period. A specific schedule and days of work will be confirmed in negotiation with successful applicants.

PAYMENT:

Successful interns will be paid a wage in line with the National Training Wage and as set out in the National Association for The Visual Arts Code of Practice. Interns will be paid weekly. NorthSite will also contribute 9.5% superannuation paid into the intern’s nominated superannuation account. The total remuneration for each intern is approximately $9,000, with an associated training component attached to each role.

Applicants will be shortlisted for interview based on their responses to the 3 questions listed in the Position Description in relation to the essential criteria. Applicants are asked to order their preferred internship area in order of preference (exhibitions, programs, retail).
