SUMMARY:Drypoint Printmaking Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Participants will be introduced to fine art printmaking mediums (Intaglio\, Relief\, Planographic & Stencil). They will learn about the Intaglio printmaking medium through their own creation of a multi-plate drypoint print utilizing plexiglass plates. \nThe classes will cover: \n\nOverview of the conventional fine art printing mediums\n\n\nDemonstration and discussion of materials & equipment used in Intaglio printing.\n\n\nDesigning and drawing an image\n\n\nCreating an image on the plate\, utilizing a variety of tools and mediums\n\n\nInking and printing a plate\, using the conventional intaglio method\n\n\nDemonstrate different materials that can be used for a drypoint plate\n\n\nSet up press and registration\, for multi-plate print\n\nThis workshop is suitable for all levels of experience\, no previous skills in the printmaking mediums required. \n  \nWorkshop fee \nThe Price covers both dates – Monday 16 September and Mon 23 September 2024\, 5:30pm – 8:00pm \nYou need to be able to attend both dates \nThe workshop fee includes all materials\, including fine art rag paper\, inks\, plates and use of tools and equipment whilst in the studio. \nThis process uses non toxic products. \n  \nBursary places available for those experiencing financial hardship – email printmaking@northsite.org.au to apply for access to the workshop.

DESCRIPTION:Join us to hear from the Artists at Mirndiyan Gununa Aboriginal Corporation\, Mornington Island Art\, with researchers from the ARC Centre of Excellence for Australian Biodiversity and Heritage (CABAH) as they speak about the collaborative exhibition ‘NGURRUWARRA/ DERNDERNYIN: Stone Fish Traps Of The Wellesley Islands’. Following this conversation artists Geoff Dixon and Euan Macleod will discuss their exhibition ‘Facing Time: 50 Years’ and Local Artist Selina Kudo will share stories from her practice. \nGeoff lives and works in Cairns\, Queensland. Geoff has long been concerned with the fragility of the natural world alongside the human drive for collection and preservation\, and with our contribution to the tragedy of extinction. \nEuan has held more than fifty solo shows in New Zealand and Australia and has taken part in numerous group exhibitions in Australasia and internationally. DESCRIPTION:Join Printmaker\, Robert Tommy Pau\, in a 5 hour workshop where participants will learn printmaking techniques. \nThis workshop is suitable for all abilities. During the first session\, participant will transfer their drawings/ line work onto a linoblock. Participants will learn cutting and carving techniques plus additional mark making methods including scratching and sanding. DESCRIPTION:Join us in the gallery for a conversation with the Artist\, Chantal Fraser\, and Curator\, Naomi Evans.  \nChantal Fraser\, a Sāmoan artist from Aotearoa/New Zealand\, explores themes of capitalism and state authority through photography\, performance\, and sculpture\, often incorporating ornamentation and personal adornment. Her work has been exhibited at renowned galleries in Australia\, Canada\, and France. The Ascended is a Griffith University Art Museum touring exhibition\, curated by Naomi Evans. \n \nRSVP | FREE TALK \n\nThe Ascended by Chantal Fraser\nThe Ascended exhibition crystallises Fraser’s exploration of power and class through her anti-colonial and anti-capitalist strategies\, developing a theory that links ornamentation\, personal protective devices and protest aesthetics as means to subvert and liberate identities. Fraser’s multimedia practice has garnered significant acclaim within Australian contemporary art and reflects the complexity of lived experiences for diasporic Sāmoan and Pasifika communities. \n\n\nChantal Fraser: The Ascended is a Griffith University Art Museum touring exhibition\, curated by Naomi Evans.\nThis project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council\, its arts funding and advisory body.
