SUMMARY:Clever Coptic Bookbinding with Rose Rigley
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, Cairns-based contemporary artist and arts educator Rose Rigley will teach the fundamentals of bookbinding. Participants (14yrs+) will be guided to create an A5 hand-made\, open-bound book using the Coptic stitch binding method. Each participant will craft one unique book\, learning how to create pages\, make covers\, layout signatures\, and techniques for binding. \nNo experience necessary. \nWhen: Saturday 19 November\nLocation: NorthSite at Bulmba-ja Arts Centre\, 96 Abbott Street\, Cairns City 4870\nTime: 1 PM — 4 PM\nPrice: $53.84\, all materials provided\nBookings are essential. DESCRIPTION:Join Elizabeth Hunter in an exclusive guided meditation and creative expression activity within the NorthSite gallery. \nThis 45-minute guided meditation invites you to connect and reflect on your body\, mind and inner thoughts. \nArtist Elizabeth Hunter (trained in Transcendental Meditation and Art Therapy) is a skilled meditation facilitator and will create a secure environment for participants to connect with their internal state. \nThis progressive meditation session will start with a bodily check-in\, allowing for full relaxation before moving into a meditative state of mind. \nFollowing the guided visualisations and meditation which will provide openness\, inspiration and insight for participants\, we will then move into a creative activity. \nThis activity will involve drawing images or making notes upon paper\, bought about through the meditative experience and the artist’s guidance before passing these messages into the either. \nAfterwards\, you are invited to share your experience with the group if you wish.  \nBOOK TODAY \n\nThese two activities are designed to enhance people’s transpersonal experience and creative expression as we embrace the Day of the Dead. DESCRIPTION:Join artist Elizabeth Hunter in a 4hr mask-making workshop where you will create your own custom face mask. \nIn this workshop\, you’ll develop skills and learn the process of creating plaster/ papier-mâché masks using the contours of our faces to create a wearable mask.  \nThis exciting creative activity will provide you with the skills to create your own custom face mask; perfectly timed for Halloween and the Day of the Dead celebrations. \nAll ages are welcome. His engaged\, participative practices provoke audiences to comprehend\, envisage and imagine collective pathways towards sustainable futures. He has specialized for over twenty-three years in collaborative\, experimental practices with emphasis upon innovative performance forms\, site-specific electronic arts\, networked interactive installations\, alternative interfaces\, art-science collaborations and socially and ecologically engaged practices. \nDaniele Constance — Socially Engaged Artist\, Kombumerri Country of the Yugambeh Language Region \nDaniele Constance is a participatory artist with a focus on social\, civic and inclusive arts practices\, currently working on the land and water of the Yugambeh Language Region of the Gold Coast\, she creates artistic works that draw from direct experience and social arts practices; often using verbatim\, documentary\, community engages\, site-specific and contemporary arts practices. Her work is informed and shaped by community engaged methodologies; and a deep questioning and reorienting of community and ecology; encompassing the complexnatural environments\, non-human relationships and dynamics we are inherently a part of. Daniele works with care\, transparency and with relationships at the centre of the work. \nDonna Davis — Visual Artist\, Yuggera + Ugarapul Country \nDonna Davis explores the nexus between art and science. She creates new ways of working with ecological concepts and data to develop artworks that capture and create sites of environmental observation. As an artist\, she is intrigued with the idea of connection\, and works across a range of media including sculpture\, installation and digital media to explore connections and relationships with the natural world. She believes that the art/science field provides a powerful catalyst to challenge our discourse\, raise environmental awareness and promote conservation of our ecology: by providing new ways of ‘seeing’ and creating new ‘connections’ in the mind of the viewer. \nDelissa Walker — Artist \nDelissa Walker is a Kuku Yalanji woman from the Mossman/Daintree Rainforest region of Far North Queensland. \n\n  \nCome Along \n  \n\n \n  \nThis project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council\, its arts funding and advisory body. DESCRIPTION:Participants will work with a selection of 50+ existing personal images\, arranging their photographs in a folio of fresh image sequences. \n  \nWho\, What\, Why: \nPhotographers Sean Davey and Aishah Kenton of the Pacific Centre for Photographic Arts will guide you through a range of considerations and approaches to arrive at an intimate folio of personal photographs. \nEach participant will create a new series of photographs presented in a cohesive folio\, that communicates narrative and feeling solely through image. This activity demonstrates the power of storytelling through incidental photography of everyday life and shows that each of us has a unique position\, aesthetic\, and perspective to share. \n“This program gives people an awareness that each of us is likely to have a body of photographic work in our phones or in an old photo album on the shelf\, incidental work\, work that explores where they are\, their life.
